Damian Montagu’s WW1 Commemorative Single ‘The Boar’s Head’ is out today.

We are proud to announce the release on the Walk upon England label of a poignant new collaboration of music and animation, on this 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War to commemorate the lives of more than 1,300 men from the South Downs and Sussex killed or injured in just one day during the war.

The above short film, illustrated by award winning Sussex artist Russell Cobb, was launched on the South Downs National Park’s YouTube channel and Facebook, at 11 am this morning.

Composer Damian Montagu was inspired to compose his new piece ‘The Boar’s Head’ after hearing the story of ‘the Day that Sussex died.’ On 30 June 1916 men from the 11th, 12th and 13th Southdowns Battalions of the Royal Sussex Regiment were ordered to make an attack at the Battle of the Boar’s Head in an attempt to divert German attention ahead of the Battle of the Somme.
